Preschool and Elementary Music

Preschool music is a year long course that meets for 20 minutes two times a week.  Students explore music through singing, moving, active listening and playing instruments which enhances psycho-motor, perceptual and cognitive skills. Class time is also used to prepare and rehearse for two performances, at Christmas time and in the spring.

Kindergarten-5th grade music classes explore and express music through singing, moving, active listening and playing rhythm and pitched instruments.  Using Orff and Kodaly methods set the student up for success so it becomes enjoyable from the start.  Music appreciation, composers and notation are introduced in 1st and 2nd grades.  History and note reading/writing is emphasized in 2-5th grades.  Recorders are used in 3rd grade.  Fourth graders become aware of tone, texture, rhythm, harmony and have the option to participate in band in addition to music class.
