Mrs. Mayra Johnson is the Preschool and Elementary School Principal at ACS. Mrs. Johnson started her teaching career in East Aurora School District as a 1st grade bilingual teacher. Since then she has continued her role as a teacher, Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal and Principal. Mrs. Johnson has had the opportunity to study at Judson College, Aurora University, and National Louis University where she has acquired her BA, MA and ESL endorsement. She has also had the opportunity to work in East Aurora School District, Wheaton Warrenville School District and Yorkville Community Unit School District. Within these school districts, Mrs. Johnson has had an opportunity to also work with a variety of populations such as EL (English Learner) students, students in the Stars (Skills Training and Related Services) programs, students with IEPs and gifted students. After numerous years in public education, Mrs. Johnson was looking for something different for herself and her daughters. Mrs. Johnson was praying for God's guidance to what was next in her life and she and her family landed at ACS. She is excited for the new adventure and to see what God has in store for all.
She and her family (Adam/husband, Madalynn and Hannah/daughters) live in Plano and attend Plano Christian Church where they are active members in the missions department, worship team, Kingdom Kids, and youth group. In her spare time, Mrs. Johnson likes to spend time with family, exercise, compete in races, travel, and if time allows, cook.
Mrs. Valerie Anderson joined the staff at ACS in November of 2000. She was born in Coral Gables, Florida, and was raised in Florida and California. As a young adult, Mrs. Anderson moved to Washington, where she raised salmon for a living, and met her husband, Phil. In 2000, they moved to Illinois, to assist Phil's parents. They have three grown children: Graham, Patrick, and Whitney. The family attends Fox River Lutheran Church.
Dr. Rodrigo Azofeifa joined Aurora Christian Schools in 2019. He currently teaches Pre-K/5th grade Spanish. Before he joined ACS, Dr. Azofeifa has taught Spanish every grade level from K-12 at Cornerstone Christian Academy (CCA) in Sycamore, IL, since 2003.
Mr. Azofeifa is an Adjunct Faculty member at Indiana Wesleyan University- Global Academic Program and for Wesley Seminar. Rev. Azofeifa and his wife, Ricci, live in Malta, IL, and serve as lead Pastor at Real Connection Church in DeKalb, IL. They feel blessed with their two sons, Jeremy and Josue, both currently ACS students.
Mrs. Julie Eckburg has been teaching three-year-old children at Aurora Christian School since 1989. She grew up in Utica, IL next to Starved Rock State Park. After graduating from the University of Iowa she was married and lived briefly in DesMoines, IA. She and her husband then moved to Galesburg, IL where their three children, Joshua, Jacob, and Meredith were born. The family relocated to the Aurora area in 1984 and in 1987 enrolled all three children in Aurora Christian. They graduated from ACS in 1997, 1999, and 2001. Julie and Mike have three grandchildren: Gavin Paul, Nolan Patrick, and Clara June. They attend Harvest Bible Chapel in Aurora.
Mrs. Justine Hasulube has been on staff at Aurora Christian School since fall 2017 as the Music Teacher for Preschool through 5th grade. She initially majored in Music in college for two years prior to majoring in Occupational Therapy. Mrs. Hasulube has been heavily involved in Music for her lifetime. As a child she began singing solos and sang with her family for Special Music in church. She has sung in school and church choirs since age three and received top awards as a soloist and flautist and with her choir and band at competitive music festivals throughout secondary education. She has served on Worship Teams at churches for over 25 years both singing and playing keyboard. Mrs. Hasulube began teaching Music and Band at another local Christian school in 2006 and also remains on staff there. She is also and Early Intervention Occupational Therapist. Mrs. Hasulube is married and has 6 children, 5 of whom have attended Aurora Christian.
Mrs. Deb McKinney joined the ACS staff in 1987. She is currently serving as Principals' & Office Assistant, but has worked in various support staff roles over her 30+ years at ACS.
Miss. Jaelyn Townsend has served as a Teacher’s Aide at Aurora Christian Preschool since 2018. Miss Townsend enjoys working with children and takes pride in her job. She believes teaching children is very important and enjoys helping them to grow smarter and better with their education and also the Word of God. Miss Townsend lives in Yorkville with her family and worships at Harvest New Beginnings Church.
Miss. Jordan Townsend currently serves as a Teacher Aide, working alongside teachers in the preschool at Aurora Christian. Prior to joining the staff at Aurora Christian in 2018, Jordan Townsend served as a volunteer in various capacities within the elementary school. Ms. Townsend also served as an assistant coach for the Middle School Girls Volleyball team and co-led the Preschool Summer Camp.
Mrs. Connie Velasquez has been teaching PreK- 4's at Aurora Christian School since August 1996. She is a graduate of East Aurora High School. With a strong desire to have their children in a solid Christian school and atmosphere, Connie and her husband Tom (a retired firefighter/paramedic with the City of Aurora), were introduced to Aurora Christian in 1988 through church friends who also sent their sons to ACS. They have four wonderful children who are all graduates of Aurora Christian School, Talia (2001), Tiffany (2003), Tommy (2008), and Tyler (2010). They attend Wheaton Christian Center Church at 610 E. North Ave., in Carol Stream and reside in Aurora.
Mrs. Julie Zielke has been with ACS since 2001 as the preschool registrar/secretary. She and husband David have four children, which are all alumni of ACS, and have been blessed with two amazing grandchildren! They live in Bristol, and attend Cross Lutheran Church in Yorkville. Mrs. Zielke enjoys watching her two grandchildren, photography, watching the Chicago Blackhawks with her family, and feels she has one of the best jobs in the world - watching God's little ones grow in their love for Jesus!
