Math 6 Math Course 2, McDougal Littell
The scope of Math 6 includes foundational skills in numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and problem solving. The skills emphasis includes decimals, fractions, and integers. Mathematical strategies are modeled, practiced, and reinforced. Skill transfer to life skills is encouraged through the use of problem solving exercises. Weekly skillsheets are a component of this course. Open to grade 6.
PreAlgebra PreAlgebra, McDougal Littell
This course is designed to prepare students with a foundation of algebraic skills. Topics covered within this course are integers, fractions, variables, expressions, equations, inequalities, and exponents. Students also work with ratio, percents, and geometric figures. Weekly skillsheets are a component of this course. Open to grade 7. (Special consideration for accelerated 6th grade students may be made by the math department and administration. Only students who receive a grade of 97% or higher in 5th Grade math, have a Terra Nova CSI ability test score of 120 or higher, and pass the first and second semester final exams for 6th grade math with a 92% or higher will be considered.)
Algebra 1 Algebra 1, McDougal Littell
This course covers the four fundamental operations of arithmetic from the standpoint of algebra. It will strongly emphasize solving equations and inequalities, as well as factoring polynomials. Students will graph lines and study their slopes and intercepts. Other topics covered within this course are exponents, systems of equations, functions, and probability. This course frequently applies the fundamental algebraic concepts learned to solving reallife word problems. Weekly skillsheets are a component to this course. Open to grades 8, 9. (Special consideration for accelerated 7th grade students may be made by the math department and adminstration. Only students who receive a grade of 97% or higher in 6th grade math, have a Terra Nova CSI ability score of 120 or higher, and pass the first and second semestser final exams for prealgebra with a 92% or higher will be considered.)
Middle school students who receive a 96% test average for both semesters of Algebra I and receive department recommendation are eligible to enroll in Honors Geometry in 9th grade.
