A brilliant director and wonderful man of God once said that “Theater at its best provides an understanding of ourselves as men and women made in the image of God.”
What a great insight! Our heavenly Father is unbelievably multi-faceted…and when we use our gifts we can learn to be more like HIM! Among my favorite attributes of God are His creativity and His imagination. When we perform on stage, we develop and use both of these things in ways we might otherwise never have the opportunity to. When the ACS high school drama department produces a show, we hope to provide not only a pleasant evening of entertainment, but also a glimpse of the joy we have found as we use our God-given gifts to prepare the performance.
Opportunities in the high school drama department vary from year to year, based on student interest. Each year a Christmas production and a spring play are scheduled. The Christmas show relates the TRUE Christmas story in various ways, both reverent and joyful. The spring show may be a drama, comedy, mystery or musical. There are opportunities to get involved in many ways: as an actor, as a tech crew member, as an artist – creating set pieces/programs/posters, as a stage manager – working with all the details that make up a successful performance, etc.
*Participation is dependent upon academic eligibility as well as student behavior.
Our goal for ACS theatre is to allow students to develop their God-given creativity on stage, build friendships, have fun, and, most of all, please Jesus Christ with our efforts!
