Art

Drawing 1

This semester class will give the foundation for all of the learning experiences in the studio arts. We will focus on the principals and elements of design. As the students draw and learn different drawing terms and techniques they will also learn about the history of the arts, the artists, the time periods, and the biblical significance of each artist’s work. Open to grades 9-12. $20 course fee and 18X24 sketch pad required.

Drawing 2

This semester class students will learn advanced professional drawing techniques and about the artists who perfected them. Professional college-ready portfolio work will be the goal. Open to grades 9-12. Pre-requisite Drawing 1. $20 course fee and 18X24 sketch pad required.

Painting 1

This semester class will expose students to the incredible artwork of the 20th century. Students will learn the different painting terms and techniques. Students will learn about the major artists of the time period, and then be given an opportunity to create paintings in the style of that artist. Students will also learn about the biblical significance of each artist’s work. Open to grades 9-12. Pre-requisite Drawing 1. $30 course fee applies.

Ceramics 1

This semester class students learn the important terminology, techniques, artists, and biblical historical significance of the work. Ancient Mesopotamian, Sumerian, and Babylonian cultures will be studied. Students will be given the opportunity to work on a potter’s wheel. Open to grades 10-12. Prerequisite Drawing 1. $50 course fee applies.

Advanced Ceramics

This semester class will inspire students to go beyond pottery. Students will be shown how to create sculpture in the round, and other amazing creations from all over the world. All work relates to significant artists and time periods. Professional college-ready portfolio work will be the goal. Open to grades 10-12. Pre-requisite Drawing 1, Ceramics 1. $50 course fee applies.

Advanced Placement Honors Art

This semester class will allow honors art students the opportunity to take their favorite art subject to the next level. Students will be allowed choose from any of the curriculum listed and create portfolio level work. College level projects will be worked on and completed within the semester. If approved by the administration, the student work will be displayed on school grounds. Professional college-ready portfolio work will be the goal. Upon Instructor recommendation only, Fee based on projects

Digital Photography

This semester class will learn about the amazing history of photography, and then apply that new knowledge to taking their first artistic photographs. Students will apply the principals and elements of design in every picture. Digital tools will be learned and applied to each photograph. Open to grades 11-12. Pre-requisite Drawing 1. Personal digital camera with memory card, with a suggested SD card size of one gig required. No course fee (Color lasers of student work may require a small fee).

Graphic Design 1

This is a year-long introduction to the basics of computer-based graphic design. The course work ranges from typography and the study of letterforms, to vector-based illustration, to promotional material, book layout, posters, logos, and much more! It is open to any student who has a background in design, and has taken one or more courses in design. Fee is $50 for the year and covers printing fees to have projects professionally printed.
